I’m Feeling Lucky

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

I recently was telling someone about some pictures I took and they wanted to see them. I forgot to get his e-mail so he asked a friend my name a googled me. It turns out that the #1 google result for “Aaron Thul” is this blog. He send me an e-mail letting me know he found the pictures and asked how I made my site so easy to find in Google. I told him he just needed a lot of geeky friends to talk about him and link to his blog but I do not think he will get it. To be honest I think it has more to do with my uncommon last name or maybe I am just lucky.

On a total other note I can not remember the last time that someone got me so agitated online. After a day of reflection I found the comments so funny I just had to post them:

guys like you are funny, you don’t know computers at all, if you can’t understand encapsulation, inheritance, or polymorphism, you DON”T know c++ , if you know computer science you can program in any language, or learn it, guys like you are the reason jobs are being outsourced

people like you getting jobs, is the reason our jobs are going overseas, because guys think they know the field, but don’t

if you can’t explain to me dykstra’s algorithm the church/turing thesis what sorting algorithms have the best average run time and prove it i don’t care what code you’ve written or what you think you
know

and then my point, you are the whole reason jobs get shipped overseas
you’d fail our linux admin class

i find it grossly disturbing that guys like you exist and call
yourself “linuxguy” etc when you don’t know the field at all

if i saw you and interviewed you , you’d not be hired

and btw, get a life, it’s not all about being a geek

Now I am not sure what side of the bed Mr Face Chewer got up on but I think he needs to switch sides. Maybe he is just upset that the “I’m Feeling Lucky” button does not take you to his web page.

I try and Fighting the Pull to IPhone

For years now I have loved playing with nifty new phones. This has slowed down a bit once I got a Blackberry from work but generally I have been able to keep getting the phones I want. At the moment I have a Blackberry Pearl am happy with it. I love taking pictures with it and sending them to my Flickr account. I also find the Google maps java application to be the most useful thing on the phone. I can use the Bluetooth to tether my computer to the internet when I need but it is slow. Over the air sync to the exchange server is handy and I think I would miss it if I switched. I know I could do IMAP mail but it would not sync contacts, notes, and tasks over the air.

So it seems there are a few things that keep me using my Pearl but I still find my self wanting a Iphone. What I really want is an Iphone minus the phone part. The big screen would be great for watching videos and I want video all the time on my video ipod. I sure hope Apple comes out with something soon because I am not sure how long I can fight the desire to get the Iphone and just use it as an Ipod. Would there would be something wrong with that??? If Apple would tell me when I can get a video Ipod as cool as an Iphone I might just be able to hold my self back, maybe.
